Visiting Student Leaders Get a Glimpse of Careers in Medicine

The Miller School of Medicine hosted about 150 high-achieving high school students from the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine last month. The students, who spent a week in South Florida exploring various careers in the medical field, spent two days on the medical campus, experiencing a “mini medical school” and learning about the groundbreaking simulation technology developed here.

Visionary Career Development Coach Addresses Professional Development Seminar

The Office of Faculty Affairs, along with Scientists and Engineers Expanding Diversity (SEEDS) and Women In Academic Medicine (WIAM), hosted a day-long professional development seminar last month for women faculty, residents, medical and pre-medical students that featured a talk by Janet Bickel, M.A., a nationally recognized expert in faculty, career and leadership development.

Miami Model Summer Programs Prepare College Students for Healthcare Careers

Growing up knowing his older sister died at age 3 in Nigeria without a diagnosis, Emeka Okafor has wanted to be a doctor since he was a child. Determined to realize his dream, he was among 50 college students welcomed last week to two of the University’s 2013 Miami Model Summer Programs, which prepare underrepresented high school and college students for medical school and healthcare careers.

Outstanding Teachers Recognized with 2013 Paff Awards

At a luncheon on April 30, Miller School students passed out 15 of the annual awards to faculty they laud as the best in their field — teachers with the same memorable traits that distinguished the late Dr. Paff.
